2021 began and here we are in the month of March- The  month of kidney awareness.

Kidneys are one of the vital organs in our body who help in process of excretion. This is something that all of us were taught in our school days.

So what does it take for the maintainance of kidney?

1) Hydration

2) Salt intake

3) Fruits and Veggies

And the list goes on . These are few of the vital ones.

So here we start with Hydration or drinking water.

Water and kidneys have a special relation which we will see in due course.

Drinking adequate amount of water is necessary for our body to function properly.

Our body is quite smart , it frequently reminds us by the sensation of thirst.  On an average 60% of adult human body consists of water. From blood circulation to various metabolic processes body utilizes water. From functioning at cellular level to organ level water plays a vital role.

Supply of oxygen and nutrients to the entire body is facilitated with the help of water.

It helps regulate:

  • Acid balance
  • Maintain temperature of 98.6 degree Fahrenheit or 37 degree Celsius, at which all the organs have optimum functioning capacity.
  • cleaning our systems and flushing toxins

All these are mostly related to our kidneys . Kidneys help in excretion of ammonia which occurs only in presence of water .  Although  in various day to day processes  we tend to lose water, as well.

Water loss increases with increase in physical activity, or any kind of exercise. over time our body senses the lack of water and we feel thirsty. This mechanism also varies with the climate around. In hot weather, the surrounding temperature causes body temperature to rise. As a result we start losing water in the form sweat. This helps regulate temperature built leads to heavy  loss of water.

After this if we don’t drink adequate amount of water , one can feel the symptoms of dehydration.

  • dry mouth
  • dizziness
  • numbness
  • headache
  • lack of focus
  • dark urine

That is why it is very important to drink water when you feel thirsty.

If already dehydrated , then one should have water with a pinch of sugar and rock salt. One teaspoon per liter is a good dilution.

In winters many have issues of frequent urination and end up drinking less fluids. in such cases one can consume more amount of citrus fruits. of course drinking water is in evitable.  The role of salt and sugar will be elaborated in the following write up.
